how bc9 handles your data. short, because there is not much to handle.
The short version
// tl;drWhat is collected
// and whyWhen you use the contact form
You provide a name or organization, an email address, and a description of your project. This is used for one purpose: so David can read it and reply to you. It is not added to a marketing list.
When you subscribe to the writing list
You provide an email address. It is used to send occasional technical write-ups. You can ask to be removed at any time and the address will be deleted.
When you simply read the site
Nothing is collected by bc9. The site is static and runs no analytics. As with any website, the host (Cloudflare) processes standard server logs — including your IP address — in order to deliver pages and protect against abuse. bc9 does not use those logs to build any profile of you.
Your theme preference
If you switch between dark and light mode, that choice is saved in your browser's local storage under a single key. It stays on your device, is not a cookie, is never transmitted, and is not used to identify you. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Who else touches your data
// third-party processorseach of these is an independent company with its own privacy policy, linked above. bc9 shares only what is strictly required for them to do their job.
Retention and your rights
// controlEnquiries are kept for as long as they are commercially useful — typically as an email thread and, where an engagement follows, in project records. Subscription addresses are kept until you ask to be removed.
You can ask bc9 to tell you what data it holds about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Depending on where you live you may have further rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. To exercise any of them, get in touch through the contact page and say what you would like done. There is no charge and no form to fill in beyond that.
bc9 is a small, principal-led practice. Requests are handled personally by David Beltran.
Changes
// versioningIf this policy changes materially, the updated version will be published here with a new date. This page is versioned in the same public repository as the rest of the site, so the full history of changes is inspectable.
